During National Elder Law Month each May, we honor the lives, rights, and dignity of older Americans. While this is certainly a time for reflection, it's also a time for action. At Sawyer Law, this is our focus every month because we constantly stand with families who have suffered the consequences of abuse, neglect, and mistreatment in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Whether it’s unexplained injuries, pressure ulcers, medication errors, or emotional trauma, the people we trust to care for our loved ones sometimes fail them. And when that happens, it’s not just a violation of trust, it’s a violation of the law.
Why National Elder Law Month Matters
National Elder Law Month isn’t just about wills or estate planning. It’s about protecting vulnerable seniors from harm, holding institutions accountable, and making sure our most experienced generation is treated with the respect and care they deserve.
Unfortunately, the need for that protection is growing. With an aging population and a shortage of qualified caregivers, too many facilities are:
Understaffed
Undertrained
Under regulated
These gaps can lead to neglect or worse.
The Signs of Abuse and Neglect
If you have a loved one in a long-term care facility, be alert for red flags like:
Bedsores or unexplained bruises
Frequent falls or broken bones
Emotional withdrawal or depression
Poor hygiene or soiled clothing
Sudden weight loss or dehydration
Overmedication or signs of chemical restraint
Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, it probably is.
How We Can Help
At Sawyer Law Firm, we investigate and pursue claims against negligent nursing homes and caregivers. Our mission is to get justice for families and make facilities safer for everyone. We handle:
Physical abuse and assault cases
Falls and broken bone claims
Bedsores and untreated infections
Wrongful death lawsuits
Financial exploitation and fraud
We work with medical experts, former employees, and families to uncover the truth and build strong cases. And we don’t charge a fee unless we recover for you.
